New Grant Opportunity: Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage
(BCAH) Application Deadlines For 2008 is January 14, 2008 for projects taking place between June 1 and December 31, 2008 This new funding program was recently announced by the federal Department of Canadian Heritage. It provides support to local arts and heritage festivals that feature local artists and artisans or local heritage, as well as major historical anniversaries of local importance. Upcoming Trade Mission
Northeast Market Center (NEMC) Trade Show and Business Mission Premiere Show January 5-9, 2008, Billerica, MA Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) in partnership with the Atlantic Craft Trade Show (ACTS) will support the participation of up to ten (10) Nova Scotia based craft and giftware producers in attending the January Premiere Show at the Northeast Market Center (NEMC) in Billerica, MA.The NEMC Premiere January Show is an ideal opportunity for Nova Scotia craft & giftware producers to explore new export markets for their products. The NEMC is a permanent showroom for sales reps and is well established in the New England market.
Building on our Nova Scotia presence at the July "Holiday" NEMC show, this project offers participants an opportunity to showcase their product in the Nova Scotia Showroom and have the value add of pre-qualified business meetings during the show dates. Wendy Diltz, Atlantic Trade Winds, will be the in-market consultant for this project. Wendy has an established record of successful matchmaking between Nova Scotia companies and prospective clients in the New England area. Wendy will be working individually with each project participant to maximize their presence in the showroom and to establish an itinerary of pre-qualified sales meetings both at the show and also at prospective clients in the surrounding vicinity of Billerica.
Nova Scotia Business Inc. will cover costs related to the trade show and participation at NEMC including: the costs of the in-market consultant to assist with organizing the trade show set-up and buyer meetings, the cost of ground transportation to/from business meetings that are outside the showroom. All costs related to travel to Boston, including airfare, accommodation, meals and shipment of product, will be the responsibility of the individual participants. Producers may qualify for funding assistance for a portion of their travel costs from the Atlantic Craft Trade Show. Participation fee is $500.00 (cheque made payable to "Nova Scotia Business Inc.). Space is restricted and based on approval of application. Canada Council, Jean A. Chalmers Fund for the Crafts
Each year, an amount of up to $50,000 is available to the Canada Council for the Arts to support special initiatives in the Canadian crafts community. Known as the Jean A. Chalmers Fund for the Crafts, this sum represents the income from an endowment of $500,000 made to the Canada Council by the late Mrs. Chalmers in 1985. The Chalmers Fund enables the Visual Arts Section to assist non-profit Canadian visual arts organizations to undertake projects that contribute to the advancement and understanding of the fine crafts in Canada. Individual fine craft professionals, such as artists, curators, critics and writers, are also eligible to apply to the Research Assistance component of the program. Priority consideration is given to projects designed to foster a climate of analysis, evaluation and dialogue. The Chalmers Fund provides partial funding for one-time projects in three different categories: Research and Policy Development Assistance, Special Project Assistance and Pre-publication Assistance. Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation
The purpose of the Foundation is to aid artists in the early stages of their careers. Awards are limited to candidates working in the following: Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture. The Ross Creek Center for the Arts
invites Visual artists to submit residency proposals for the Ross Creek Professional Gallery’s 2008-2009 season, on the theme of tradition. As part of the 2008-2009 season there is a one month residency available for an artist wishing to apply to create work on site at Ross Creek. The work can be for the professional gallery or for an installation on the grounds of the Centre. Two Planks and Passion Theatre Company, Ross Creek’s resident professional theatre company will be in rehearsals for an outdoor production of Our Town during June, 2008 and the residency proposal must link the theme of traditions and the performance company. The resident artist’s resulting work will open on July 1st in the professional gallery (unless the proposal is for outdoor exhibit). There is a form that needs to be submitted with each submission to obtain this form or to get more information please contact programs@artscentre.ca The resident artist will have access to rehearsals and will be paid a stipend, with accommodations and meals provided as well as an exhibition fee. The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery
along with its partners, supports a series of three summer Artist-in-Residence programs. The residencies at Gros Morne National Park and Terra Nova National Park are presented in partnership with Parks Canada. The residency at the Rockwell Kent house in Brigus is presented in partnership with the Landfall Trust. All three residencies are open to Canadian and international professional visual artists, working in any media. Applications should include: current curriculum vitae, including exhibition record; 10 to 15 slides and/or CD (or other visual support material); concise statement of interest and a description of work to be carried out during the residency. The applicant should also describe why she/he wishes to do the residency, and what particular perspective he/she will bring to the program; indication of public access programming to be offered by the artist, for the public at large and for young people; preferred length of stay, and two choices of time frame between May and October. The Santa Fe Art Institute
The Santa Fe Art Institute is a preeminent contemporary art facility in the Southwest. Emerging and mid-career artists can spend from one to three months living and working at the SFAI. The SFAI is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico and residents have private rooms, semi-private studio space and communal kitchen in the fabulous Ricardo Legoretto designed facility. Master Artists-in-Residence Program at Atlantic Center for the Arts:
The Master Artists-in-Residence Program at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, provides artists from all artistic disciplines with spaces to live, work and collaborate during three-week residencies. Each residency session includes three master artists of different disciplines. These masters select a group of emerging artists through an application process administered by the ACA. During the residency, the artists participate in informal sessions with their group, collaborate on projects, and work independently on their own projects. Vetrate Artistiche Toscane is a company based in Siena, Italy which specializes in the creation of stained, painted and fused glass. The Studio handles original commissions and restoration work in both religious and secular subjects. Medalta International Artists in Residence Program
The Friends of Medalta Society aims to provide educational programming at all levels, relative to the production of clay products. The Medalta International Artists in Residence Program was initiated to attract ceramic artists both established and emerging, from all over the world. Invited guest artists work with participants in an environment that supports all aspects of the creative process. This is an opportunity to share studio space, experience, thoughts and ideas while working essentially independently. The Artist in Residency Program is geared to artists who want to continue their professional practice outside of their own studio environment. Artists must be able to work independently in their chosen studio. Residencies are offered year round ranging from 1 week to 3 months. The studios at White Mountain Academy are spacious and furnished with high quality equipment, allowing artists the freedom to work on a large scale.
